What is the real advantage of Android's open source system?
Q. I been researching the differences between iOS6 and Android, and big difference is the closed / open source system. From what I've read many people say that the open source system is superior because developers can release apps without needing clearance from Apple.
However, is this really an advantage? It seems to me that many of the apps one would want are available in the app store, and the screening process by Apple decreases the amount of poor-quality apps.

A. Yes, this is an advantage if you want to download new keyboards, operating systems, and themes for your phone but you have to be careful of what you download because some things can mess up your phone pretty badly. I have a Samsung Intercept and I downloaded a keyboard and it totally crashed the operating system. There are a ton of lower quality apps for Android too! My personal preference is the closed source but whatever works for you! Hope this helps!

How to make the border white around an instagram photo?
Q. Hi well I have a new camera and I wanted to take some pictures that will be tumblr-ish for my instagram profile which will be based on tumblr things. But I really want to know how all these tumblr girls make their pictures with a picture and then like a white border/background around It. It makes it look like a tumblr type thing like there's this new account called 'awk0_sloths_' and she has pictures with those white background/border things. But the pictures are not her photos so she doesn't know. I've tried squaready and whitagram but there's not enough white background around it. A. I'm almost positive that that account uses squaready, you just have to know how to do it right lol. If it's a vertical picture, then you can't crop it at that angle, but you can still make it with a white border and make it tumblry.

Whenever I try to mention more than 5 people in a comment I get the red exclamation mark to tell me there's an error. A. The comments you see with the 5 people tagged was probably done on the computer. If you want to tag more than 5 people, you're going to have to comment more than once. Hope I helped!!

Q. Hi! I downloaded a couple apk files to install on my phone, however, when i want to uninstall it, it says its only like 20 mb when it downloaded 800 mbs or something when i first opened the game on my phone. How do I uninstall these files? Thanks!

How is it possible for instagram users to have a lot of followers with minimal posts?
Q. I noticed a lot of people without a lot of photo's have over 500 followers. How is this possible? I'd like to have this too.

How much data does WhatsApp messenger run on?
Q. I was planning to get a smartphone (most likely a Blackberry) some time soon. In addition to that, I plan on purchasing the WhatsApp messenger app. So I was wondering how much data does WhatsApp messenger runs on since I'm trying to decide if I should get a 200 MG or 2GB data packaging plan?
The main use of the phone would be to use BBM and WhatsApp. Is 200MG enough to perform both of that?

A. For normal text messaging purposes, WhatsApp is pretty lightweight and could survive pretty easily with a 200Mb plan. However, if you start sending and receiving a lot of images, audio, and video, you'll quickly go over the 200Mb and need the 2GB plan.
The nice thing about WhatsApp is that it has a usage feature so that you can actually track your usage against your monthly bill.
As a start, I would recommend starting with 200Mb for 1 month. If it's too little, then bump it to 2GB and never think about it again.

Q. My ipod froze as i was makin an account and when became unfrozen it still picked up where i was tapping, and i accidentally chose "do not allow" instagram to access your photos. A. I've doen this my editing apps, it's really easy to fix. Simply go to settings, on your ipod. When the screen pops up, scroll down, and one of the tabs says Privacy. It has a hand on it, like it's telling you to stop. You click that link, and a bunch of items will pop up that could be private. Click on the one that says photos, then scroll down until you see instagram. A little slidey bar should be there and you just turn it on:)

How to set Opera Mini as default web browser in Samsung S5600?
Q. Hi does anyone know how to set Opera Mini as the default web browser in Samsung S5600 Preston icon? I can open it as an application from the Games folder, but is it possible for it to replace Samsung Mobile Browser v0.8 as the default - as in, when I open links or the youtube widget it will use Opera Mini instead of the Samsung browser.

A. No it is not possible. You cant replace your phone browser with opera mini because it is just a secondary app and for some purposes phone browser is essential. Moreover you cant use youtube on opera mini, if you click on the video opera mini opens it through phone browser.

Q. My doubt is, when i browse thru an article in a web portal, i couldn't see "discussion board" section on my mobile.
A. I would say "Yes but with limitations". And the limitations are not of the browser but the device. There would be some components like flash/java which the devices are not able to handle these won't appear in the browser.
I am using it on my PDA and had no such issue except for flash. Like I am not able to play videos on youtube in this or to the fact any mobile browser.

Whatsapp is a free application which enables users to instant message others who also have the app, it's basically like BlackBerrys BBM and The iPhones iMessage, it's a useful app and I use it a lot! It's totally free and well worth it! It lets you know if your message has been sent by showing a tick and then if you get 2 ticks your message has been read and it also tells you at the top when the person is typing! It also shows you when the person last used the app! I've got the iPhone version and I've never had to pay.

Does the Opera Mini browser really enable full HTML web browsing?
Q. I'm going to get the Blackberry Curve 8330 and I've heard that BB's web browser isn't that great. People have told me to download the Opera Mini browser, but will it enable me to get full HTML browsing? I want web pages to look just like they do if I were on my laptop. Thanks. :)

Q. My phone model is E16i, but i cant find an option or thing that'll help me install the APK file games on it! Please help me!!!

-> First,copy all the games you downloaded into the sd card
->second goto the android market and search for "app installer" and install
->launch the app
->it will show you the apps on the sd card or find them

A. depending on what android phone you have, if you go to settings > applications when you click on one of your apps you have an option to install it on your SD from the phone.

Q. I'm planning to buy a WiFi only Honeycomb tablet(say xoom or acer a500). But I don't have any wifi router now, though I'm planning to buy one later. So, for the moment, how can I download android apps from the android market and install it to my android device?

A. Ideally, there should be an option in SETTINGS > DEVELOPER OPTIONS > Show Application ANR's. It will give you a popup anytime any applications freezes. (ANR stands for Application Not Responding).
This might help you to find out which all applications are freezing. This might bug you for a while though, as it will show ANR's for even background apps.

What android phones are compatible with netflix?
Q. I have many friends who have smartphones, but they aren't compatible with the Netflix app. I know the iPhone is compatible with Netflix, meaning it actually plays movies, but aren't there other phones who can play netflix videos? Help?

A. To answer your question some android devices won't support Netflix. Especially older version of Android like 2.2 or below. Tell your friend to reinstall the app again and see if it will work. Sometimes the problem is cost by the app. Or just the bugs that are affecting it. The newest Netflix app right now is 2.1.2 and it supports android 2.2 or up. Also i recommend you to check the version of your os. If it's below 2.1 then the netflix will not work.

Is there a way to get the Android Market to recognize downloaded android files (apk files)?
Q. I installed an app onto my phone from the sd card but I did not buy it from the android marketplace. I want to update it but since I didn't buy it from the android market, I still get the "buy" option rather than an update option. Is there any way to get the android market to recognize that I have the app installed so that I can update it?

3rd party apps wont show on Martet download lists since you didnt get it from Google... you will have to update it from the 3rd party.... If they posted the app, then naturally they have the update too (like Applanet.net does)

How do I get instagram notifications from one account onto multiple devices?

Q. I noticed a lot of people without a lot of photo's have over 500 followers. How is this possible? I'd like to have this too.
A. Perhaps all their posts interactions with other people are via private message or their posts are hidden, assuming it's possible to do these things on Instagram (which I've never heard of until now so I'm unsure how it works, but I assume it's kind of similar to Facebook and Twitter.)

A. Well rose, when you take a picture and go to upload it it has a little section on the bottomish that says share there you'll see Facebook, twitter,etc.

How do I put Instagram photos BACK on Facebook after deleting them?
Q. Help! I removed all Instagram activity from my Facebook and didn't realize it would take all my photos off too! Is there a way to put them back on without reuploading them each individually?
A. If the photos are still on instagram, you would have to go into each photo, click on the ... on the bottom right, select 'share' and then select Facebook. There doesn't seem to be a way to share all the photos at once.

How can I install the apps to the sd card from the android market or from a .apk file?
Q. I have a vodafone 845 mobile phone.
When I install something it automatically installs it to the phone's memory.

A. If the app allows Move2SD, you have an option to move that app in "Manage Apps"
If the app wants to install by default to SD (which means PART of it goes to SD, it will do so by itself.
Root and "default to SD" actually forces apps to SD whether they want to or not, which can break apps, break widgets, and more. It sounds cool, but it doesn't help... much.

How do i make android apps and publish them to the android market?
Q. How do i code everything . I made a app with eclipse and SDK manager . But not sure what all the codes mean. I need help . Should i pay 25.00 to be allowed to publish to the market? . Also is it easier to use sites that generates apps so i wouldnt need to code? Im a newbie and im 15!
A. You're gonna have to learn to write code eventually. Your programs probably won't even be approved for the market if you didn't put any effort into them.
As for licensing, I don't know the specifics for Andriod, but normally it's around $100 a year.
I think you should learn to code for yourself instead of trying to publish other peoples work. It's immoral and you could end up with a law-suit on your hands.

How to find the android application that crashes and reboots my android phone?
Q. I have an android HTC phone, I put custom ICS on my phone, from the beginning it worked flawlessly,after installing few Certified applications from Google play and moving the applications from phone memory to SD-Card, my phone starts to crashes and reboot every few minutes.
I want to figure out what application has destroyed my phone and remove that application for ever.
I am wondering if there is any way to monitor and log all the applications activities and crashes on the my Android phone,even capturing the services which are running in the background before system bootsup to user interface those services that are causing my phone crashes.

A. Ideally, there should be an option in SETTINGS > DEVELOPER OPTIONS > Show Application ANR's. It will give you a popup anytime any applications freezes. (ANR stands for Application Not Responding).
This might help you to find out which all applications are freezing. This might bug you for a while though, as it will show ANR's for even background apps.

Is there a way to get the Android Market to recognize downloaded android files (apk files)?
Q. I installed an app onto my phone from the sd card but I did not buy it from the android marketplace. I want to update it but since I didn't buy it from the android market, I still get the "buy" option rather than an update option. Is there any way to get the android market to recognize that I have the app installed so that I can update it?

3rd party apps wont show on Martet download lists since you didnt get it from Google... you will have to update it from the 3rd party.... If they posted the app, then naturally they have the update too (like Applanet.net does)

Q. My ipod froze as i was makin an account and when became unfrozen it still picked up where i was tapping, and i accidentally chose "do not allow" instagram to access your photos. So now i wanna change that but i have no clue how. And im on the app, is that why i cant find the option to change that?
A. I've doen this my editing apps, it's really easy to fix. Simply go to settings, on your ipod. When the screen pops up, scroll down, and one of the tabs says Privacy. It has a hand on it, like it's telling you to stop. You click that link, and a bunch of items will pop up that could be private. Click on the one that says photos, then scroll down until you see instagram. A little slidey bar should be there and you just turn it on:)
